Counterfeit Fruit

“Without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

In this great chapter on Spiritual fruit bearing, Jesus tells His disciples that He is the vine and that they are the branches. Only by abiding in Him can they bear fruit.

Branches on a grape vine can bear fruit only as they are attached to the vine. Sever the branch from the vine and there will be no grapes.

The Bible tells us that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith (or faithfulness), meekness and temperance. (Galatians 5:22-23)

All of our religious efforts come to naught and our “good” deeds are in the energy of the flesh, unless we abide in Jesus through prayer, the reading of His word, worship and coming to Him for strength. Otherwise, we will not bear fruit, just something counterfeit that somewhat resembles fruit.
