The Inspired Word of God

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God…” (II Timothy 3:16)

The Bible is the “God breathed book.  Peter wrote, “…holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” (II Peter 1:21)

The word “inspiration” in our text is not speaking of someone being “inspired” by a flower to write a lovely poem. Or, as Robert Burns was inspired to write his, “Ode to a Louse,” upon seeing a louse moving about on a lady’s fur collar as he sat behind her at church.

Biblical inspiration means that God told men what to write and they wrote it. Someone objected saying, “I believe it is inspired in some places such as John 3:16.” The response was, “Oh, you believe it is inspired in spots and that you are inspired to spot the spots.”

If it is inspired, or breathed out by God, and penned by holy men of God, then it is the Word of God and you and I do well to heed what it says.
