I Believe God

“Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.” (Acts 27:25)

The context of our verse is in the midst of a storm on the Mediterranean Sea. Paul the Apostle is one of 276 on board a ship on the way to Rome where Paul was to appear before Caesar. Men feared for their lives. An angel of God appeared to Paul telling him to be of good cheer because he and all on board will reach shore safely.

Here are some observations from this verse and its context:

  1. I believe I belong to God. I am His child and His servant. Verse 23 says, “…God, whose I am, and whom I serve.”
  2. I believe God’s Word. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
  3. I believe God will see me through the storms of life. We have the advantage of looking at verse 44, “And so it came to pass that they escaped all safe to land.”
  4. I believe God will deliver me safe home. (see Acts 28:30)
  5. One man with faith in God can deliver a boatload, a household, a church, a community, a city or nation.
