God Established Civil Government for the Good of All

“In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”(Judges 21:25)

God established the home, civil government, worship and the church. When men ignore the pattern which God laid down for each of these there is disorder, chaos, confusion and anarchy. The Bible says, “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes…” (Proverbs 21:2) We cannot both straddle the center line on the highway while one of us is going north and the other is going south, moving toward each other at 70 miles per hour.

When people in society act as if there is no restraining law there comes that which we have witnessed lately: burning, looting, breaking in, stealing and general vandalism. That is anarchy.

Government cannot allow every man to do only that which is right in his own eyes without violating the rights of others. If people will not restrain themselves they must be restrained by the laws of the land.
