Satan Hinders Us

“Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.” (I Thessalonians 2:18)

Paul had desired to go to Thessalonica time after time to assist the young church there in their doctrinal and moral issues. But, the devil had hindered him.

Satan hinders God’s people and their service for the Lord in so many ways and so many times. He hinders us by casting doubts on God’s Word as he did Eve in the Garden of Eden. He hinders our prayer time by getting us off focus and thinking about the concerns of the day. He hinders us as he did our Savior by throwing temptation in our path. He hinders churches by substituting things that keep us from keeping the main thing the main thing. When we plan to share the gospel with an acquaintance in a private visit or conversation Satan will hinder you in a host of ways: he will make the phone ring, someone will knock on the front door, a cat and dog will get in a fight in the next room, a baby will cry or even a car wreck on the street in front of the house where you are visiting.

He will hinder you from going to church and taking the children, but he won’t hinder you from going to the lake on Sunday or going over to visit folks in a distant city.

We must exercise vigilance, diligence and prayer to keep Satan from hindering our Christian walk. The Bible says we are to, “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God.” (Ephesians 6:10, 11)
