The Worth of Your Soul

“For what shall it profit and man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mark 8:36-37)

How does one estimate the worth of his soul?

Thursday morning it was announced that there were three winning tickets in the lottery on Wednesday night. Each ticket would be worth five hundred million dollars ($500,000,000) before taxes. That’s a whole lot of money.

If a lost man knew that just on the other side of his last breath there was the lake of fire we call hell and he had less than a minute to live, what would he give in exchange for just a few more breaths? That pile of lottery money, or any other pile of money, cannot buy another breath, cannot buy back one’s youth when he is old, cannot buy a true friend, cannot buy another sunrise or sunset.

God saw the value of our souls when he willingly sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross of Calvary to pay for man’s sins. All the wealth in the world could not pay salvation’s price. He paid the price and freely gives eternal life to us.
