“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way”
(Psalm 37:23).
Until one’s life is changed by the Holy Spirit working the miracle of the New Birth, the scripture says, “there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Romans 3:12) What makes a good man a good man? Our text says that it is because the man’s steps are ordered by the Lord. His first steps to goodness are repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
His steps are not ordered by the world or by the sinful ways of the world. Neither are his steps ordered by alcohol, drugs and lust. He doesn’t give place or room for the devil. The Lord shows us in His precious word how to walk, where to step so as to avoid “pit falls,” “land mines” and snares the devil sets for us.
God delights in the man’s way because he is stepping where God directs him to step. The good man is led by the Word of God and the Spirit of God.
