Joy in the Presence of the Angels

“Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.” (Luke 15:10)

Despised publicans who collected taxes from the Jews for the Romans came with other sinners to hear Jesus. This brought a complaint from the Pharisees and scribes.

Jesus spoke three parables to them as a rebuke for their murmuring. One was about a man losing and then finding a sheep, and rejoicing because he had found the sheep. Another was about a woman who had ten pieces of silver and lost one of them and searched until she found it at which time she rejoiced. And finally a man lost one of his two sons and later rejoiced when his son came home.

Our text comes at the end of the parable in which the woman lost a coin and searched diligently until she found it. She invited her friends to come and rejoice with her.

One way to cause joy in heaven in the presence of the angels is to invite unsaved folks to Jesus. There is rejoicing in heaven in the presence of the angels when even just one sinner repents of his/her sin and receives Christ as their Savior.
