Blessings too Numerous to Count

“My mouth shall show forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.” (Psalm 71:15)

The many references to old age in this psalm let us know that the writer is advanced in years. No doubt, he had some of the same aches and pains the older readers of this daily devotion have.

Old age gives us time to reflect on the blessings of God on our lives through the years. It is, “through many dangers, toils, and snares, we have already come; ‘tis grace hath brought us safe thus far, and grace will lead us home.”

It is good to have a daily devotional time. However, our psalmist declares the blessings of God are so numerous that he cannot count them in a short devotional time. So he will praise the Lord with his mouth all the day long.

Try counting your blessings as the old hymn suggests. Name them one by one. It will truly surprise you what the Lord has done. But, don’t stop there. Thank Him and praise Him for the many, many blessings He has bestowed upon you.
