Tell the Folks at Home

“Jesus said unto him, ‘Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.’” (Mark 5:19)

This is a true story of a man possessed with a demon. He lived in a cemetery, cutting himself on the sharp edges of the tomb stones. People had tried to tame him and hold him with chains but they could not. Then Jesus came and cast the demons out of him. Immediately he was tame, sitting, clothed and in his right mind.

He wanted to follow Jesus because Jesus had done something for him that no one else could do. However, Jesus told him to go home to his friends and tell them what Jesus had done for him.

Our friends and family can be the most difficult people with whom we share the Gospel. All we can do is what Jesus told the cured demoniac to do, go home and tell our friends what Jesus has done for us.

Finally, notice that he obeyed the Lord’s instruction and, “all men did marvel.” They saw a marvelous change in this man. His new life became evidence that his old life was gone and that he was a new man.
