Raising God’s Children

“Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is His reward.” (Psalm 127:3)

Almost any male and female couple of whatever species can produce offspring. But the ability to produce offspring is not to be equated with being a good parent. God has chosen human kind to reproduce and replenish the earth. When a child is addicted to drugs even before he is born it is evidence of a mother and father producing offspring but not being good parents.

Our text says that children are a heritage of the Lord. Parents are to produce offspring and then to be good stewards over God’s heritage and to “…Train up a child in the way he should go…” (Proverbs 22:6) It is not good parenting to never teach a child in the ways of God, or to never have them in church, or never set a good example of Godliness or to have little or no interest in the things at his/her school. Good parenting includes helping the children choose the right kinds of friends.

For the sake of your children and for the sake of being a good steward over God’s heritage, be a good parent. We can find the instructions in the Bible.
