(I John 3:3)
The hope here is not wishful thinking. It is rather the guarantee promised by God Himself. There is no hope for the lost person. But the saved joyfully sing, “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” The coming again of Jesus is one of the promises that make up the Christian’s hope.
With that hope firmly established in the believer, he is to purify himself even as Jesus is pure. I heard the following illustration somewhere: “The expectation of a house guest prompts preparation such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting and so forth. The child of God is to order his life to match his hope.”
