Is It in the Bible?

“But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.” (I John 2:27)

The late, John Philips, told of one of his friends being approached by someone who claimed that Joseph Smith was a latter day prophet and that the “Book of Mormon” was a second New Testament. Dr. Phillips’ friend asked the man with those claims, “What does he prophesy? If it’s in the Bible, I don’t need it; and if it’s not in the Bible, I don’t want it.” (1)

When a Christian, whether a new babe in Christ or a seasoned veteran, stays in the Word and abides in Christ he has all he needs. When we become believers the Holy Spirit takes up residence within. We have the same anointing which the first century Christians to whom John is writing.

When reading your Bible, pray that the Holy Spirit would give you understanding. Don’t fall for something new.
