Rest

“And He said unto them, ‘Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while…’” (Mark 6:31)

Scattered here and there on the staff lines and spaces and among the notes on a sheet of music, we sometimes find an odd shaped thing that is different from the notes. It is not a musical note. In fact, it is called a “rest.” It is not intended to be sung or played. It is a rest. Even though there is no music in a rest, the song being sung or played sounds better and more appealing if the “rest” is observed.

The Lord’s apostles were staying busy doing His work. Jesus called them to “come apart and rest.” The late, O.G. Lawless said in a message, “If we do not come apart and rest we will just come apart.”

When our Lord beckons us to rest we are to rest. There is no work in rest but the work of God goes better when we take time to rest. His invitation to us is, “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) Rest in Him.
