Amen

“For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” (Matthew 6:13)

The Lord Jesus closes the Model Prayer with a wonderful recognition. We started out with, “Our Father which art in heaven.” We close with our text recognizing the superiority of God over the entire universe. As the Psalmist said, “From everlasting to everlasting thou art God.” (Psalm 90:2) When we pray we are to remember to whom it is we are talking.

The Model Prayer closes as we might expect, just a simple “Amen.” The word “amen” means, “that’s the way it is,” or, “so be it.”

So, there you have it, a short, concise simple model prayer of just sixty-six words. And since we are encouraged to pray to God in a secret place, such as our closet (Matthew 6:6), we are not trying to impress others with our ability to string together a list of high sounding words. The main thing is to pray humbly, honestly and in faith.
